Why Three Months?

A yearly calendar is good for an overview, but the boxes are tiny. A monthly one is great for detail, but you cannot see far ahead. A 3-month calendar gives you both: enough space to write, and a clear view of the next few weeks.

The Four Quarters of 2026

Quarter Months Bank holidays
Q1 January to March New Year’s Day (1 Jan), 2nd January (2 Jan, Scotland), St Patrick’s Day (17 Mar, NI)
Q2 April to June Good Friday (3 Apr), Easter Monday (6 Apr, not Scotland), Early May (4 May), Spring (25 May), extra bank holiday (15 June, Scotland)
Q3 July to September Battle of the Boyne (13 July, NI), Summer bank holiday (3 Aug Scotland, 31 Aug rest of UK)
Q4 October to December St Andrew’s Day (30 Nov, Scotland), Christmas Day (25 Dec), Boxing Day substitute (28 Dec)

Q2 is the best quarter for days off, with Easter and two May bank holidays.

Who Uses a Quarterly Calendar?

  • Small businesses and sole traders: many VAT returns are quarterly, so it helps to see each period on one page.
  • Self Assessment: the online deadline is 31 January, and the second payment on account is due on 31 July. Mark both.
  • Teachers and parents: a school term lasts about three months, so one page shows most of a term.
  • Project teams: plan work in three-month blocks and track progress.

Tips

  • Write three goals for the quarter at the top of the page.
  • Use one colour for deadlines and another for days off.
  • Cross out each week as it ends. You will always know how much time is left.
